Movie Makers: A Filmmaking Workshop for Kids

Presented by the Alabama Filmmakers Co-op (a.k.a. The Film Co-op)

Four consecutive Saturdays:
July 8, 15, 22, and 29 (9 am to 2 pm)
Ages 11 to 14. Class size is limited to 16 students.
Deadline to sign up is Friday, June 16

This workshop gives kids basic instruction in directing, acting, producing, script supervision and a variety of other filmmaking activities while they creat a short film. This year, the kids wil break into teams and each team will produce a five minute movie.

The workshop will be lead by Don Tingle and other volunteers from the Film Co-op. Parents are encouraged to volunteer time to help mentor the kids. Each production team will have adult supervision and a teen volunteer, but the goal is for the kids to make the movie. Team projects and assignment rotation will provide each participant with the opportunity to try each role on the filmmaking crew.

WORKSHOP CONTENT

Day 1: Learning the Basics of Preproduction - scriptwriting, storyboards, casting, planning, rehearsal.
Day 2 & 3: Production - participants will film each scene in their screenplay.
Day 4: Final “Pick-up” Shots, and Post Production, including editing and titles. Have a cast party and host the “world premiere.”
